Formed with the merger of Australia and New Zealand Bank with the English, Scottish and Australian Bank in 1970.

ANZ House (Auckland, N.Z.) - Head office building of the Australia and New Zealand Bank in Auckland. Designed by Wellington based architectural firm, Stephenson and Turner, and built 1962 to 1964. Situated on 203 Queen and Victoria Streets, Auckland, it opened in October 1964.

ANZ Tower (Wellington, N.Z.) - Located in Lambton Quay. Designed by Wellington based architectural firm Stephenson and Turner in the 1960s.

In 1979 an Act of Parliament permitted ANZ to incorporate its branches in New Zealand as ANZ Banking Group (New Zealand) Ltd. ANZ sold 25% of the shares to the public.
