"So, you couldn't wait until after the election before letting her play with your toys ...
Date: 2005
From: Scott, Thomas, 1947- :[Digital cartoons published in the Dominion Post]
Reference: DCDL-0000070
Description: The scene is a children's playpool in which sit a naked Prime Minister, Helen Clark and a huge hairy United States military man wearing a cap bearing the letters 'USA' and clutching a cigar between his teeth; they are playing with toy battleships. Beside the pool appears a skinny Don Brash wearing flippers, an inflatable ring and a petulant look on his face. In accusing tones he comments that the US couldn't even wait until after the election before letting Helen Clark play with their toys. On the ground is a newspaper with the headline 'US lets NZ join military exercise'. Refers to the fact that the United States has allowed New Zealand to join a combined military exercise off Singapore, signalling an apparent thaw in the Anzus defence standoff. Since the mid-1980s the US has barred New Zealand participation in joint exercises in retaliation for New Zealand's anti-nuclear law. The National Party is using the relationship with the US over nuclear-powered ships, which they describe as 'cool', as an election issue. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
