Wellington bootmaker, founded in 1873 by William Staples (who arrived in New Zealand ca 1870 aboard the ship 'City of Glasgow') in conjunction with his brother John Staples (d 1889). Business was conducted by the brothers until the death of John in 1889. William Brunskill joined the firm in 1890. Based in St Hill Street in the 1890s and in Ghuznee Street in the 1900s, the company's last address is Cuba Street in 1925. Interior scenes of a shoe shop, and various sections showing the manufacture of boots and shoes are shown in photographs taken in the 1900s.
