Description: Unpublished volume 'Once upon the Wanganui' compiled by Christina Mitchell in 2018 about a canoe trip that her father Boris Haden and five friends, Ron Mayhill, Tom Campbell, Maureen Chirm, Bruce Nutsford, and John Spencer, took on the Whanganui River in 1953. The volume is based on her father's account, along with Mitchell's research which included conversations with Ron Mayhill, and Bruce Nutsford's widow Sylvia. It includes copies of photographs taken by members of the group in 1953 and taken by Mitchell in 2018, and a sketch map of the river by J D "Jim" Mason which was used by the group.
