Date suggested by the donor. The image was used on issues of the periodical "Clef" which started in 1951, but it had originally been drawn some years before, and used as letterhead for the Wellington Symphony Orchestra. These two Wellington Girls College musical groups had just won at the Wellington district school music contest. The ensemble won the large instrumental ensemble section with their performance of Quantz's Flute Concerto in G major. The choir won the vocal section. An orchestra was formed, premises were leased, and members were involved in activities such as amateur theatricals, concerts and visits to kindred clubs. Women were admitted as members in the 1970s.
