Description: Judith (Judy) Attenberger born Panmure. Outlines family background - Irish Catholic working class family. Recalls that when parents divorced, mother held three jobs. Describes Panmure. Refers to Howick orphanage known as Star of the Sea. Left school at the age of 16 and did voluntary work at Panmure Convent before getting a job at Holeproof (textile mill) as a machinist. Refers to their good child-care centre which was affordable. Recalls joining union and was elected to executive. Mentions lack of encouragement for women - was the only woman in the union federation. Discusses amalgamation with Dairy Workers Union. Mentions Paddy O'Flanagan and Ray Potroz. Recalls dairy workers breaking away and Textile Union amalgamating with National Distribution Union in 1992. Mentions positions held with Auckland Textile Union. Mentions Equal Pay and reaction of male union members. Recalls evaluation system for skill payments. Recounts time on women's committee and discusses work of the committee; first to get six months maternity leave (1973); improving women's self esteem; promotion of Working Women's Charter; Working Women's Resource Centre.
