Description: State of the art electric kitchen. Built-in flush cupboards, streamlined "Philco" refridgerator, "Neeco" electric stove, and other electric kitchen equipment. Photograph taken by Gordon H Burt in 1938. Information taken from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display. Exhibited in 'Darling, I'm Home!' exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand, 1 June - 5 July 1999. This kitchen may well date from the late 1940s/early 1950s. As a modern kitchen it is the sort of design which was comming out of America in the late 1930s, and down market versions of its "flush" modernity were used in New Zealand state Houses.
