Piranesi aged 30, against a background of swirling clouds, with a book and leaves above a title chiselled in stone Other Titles - Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Venetian architect [translation] Extended Title - From Le vedute di Roma, 1745-1778 (frontispiece) Bookplate glued to verso, in centre, has Latin motto Festina lente, and shows a dove surmounting a cloak, the upper part of a suit of armour, and a slanting shield with three scallop shells and two double sets of bars running horizontally.
