Source of title - Transcribed Methodist affairs in Fiji were run by the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society in London until the formation of the Australasian Connexion in 1855, when Fiji became a District of the NSW Conference, and responsibility passed to Sydney and the District Chairman, whose office was first in Bau and, from 1903, in Suva. Description: Comprises Jaggar's journal, 1838-1843; his private `Spiritual' journal, 1845; and letters to him, 1838-1846. Source of title - Supplied Rev Thomas Jaggar was serving as a missionary at Rewa in the years of the protracted war between Rewa and Bau. He was probably the only European living among the Rewa people between 1839 and 1843 who kept a detailed record of events. He understood the language and was in frequent communication with the chiefs. Quantity: 1 microfilm reel(s). Provenance: Among the Methodist Church archives held in the Fiji National Archives is the diary of Rev Thomas Jaggar. Esther Keesing-Styles, along with her son, William, edited and published the diary in 1988, and included a second private, mainly spiritual, diary, kept by Jaggar in 1845.
