Description: Album of photographs, postcards and newspaper cuttings relating to Samoa and Tonga, circa 1920s. Many of the photographs, and some of the newspaper cuttings have limited captions, or no identification at all. At the beginning of the album there is a signed Christmas card from George Spafford Richardson, with a photograph of him and another European standing in front of a fale with a large group of Samoan men. One image of Robert Louis Stevenson ([p 2]), is signed by him, and another one shows the tomb of Stevenson and his wife Frances Matilda (Aolele). There are a number of views of Vailima, Stevenson's home, one early view showing Stevenson on the verandah with a group of women and another man standing above looking over the balustrade. Description: Most of these photographs have been taken by Myra McCormick in the 1970s and 1980s. They are personal records of people visiting, the garden. the new car, the launching of a book by Eric etc. There are also photographs of Samoa, and the nurses at the hospital when Myra worked there some time in the 1930s.

Includes those taken at Piula Methodist Mission; meeting Samoan chiefs; with Fono Faipule (meeting of representatives at Mulinu'u); school children dancing at Apia; during King's kava ceremony at Savaii; meeting NZ officers; group photo with members of Fono Faipule (Riput, Tamasese, and Malietoa, administrator); with Samoan nurses at Apia. Description: Contains black and white photographs. Images chiefly taken by Stephen John Smith; also by Sydney Hopkins and unidentified photographer(s) between 1914 and 1938. Includes: -Photographs of New Zealand troops in Samoa during World War One, including two taken aboard a ship, possibly the Moeraki or the Monowai, and a picture of the nursing staff in Apia, Samoa. Also included is a picture of Samoan stamps, a meal with pineapples and an image of Samoan policemen which was published in Smith's book "The Samoa (N.Z.) expeditionary force, 1914-1915". There are inscriptions on the reverse of these prints. -Two photographs of New Zealand military camps in Samoa during World War One, possibly Vaea Camp. -Two landscape photographs of beaches in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. One of the lagoon at Ngatangiia, and the other near Avarua. The image of Avarua has the H.M.S. Dunedin in the background. -One photograph of the outside of a stone house in Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland and two photographs of the inside of the old hall, Weycroft, near Axminster, England. These were possibly sent to Smith by Colonel Robert Logan.
