Description: Comprises: Photograph of guitar trio, ca 1960s Group portraits of an army regimental band (probably associated with the Featherston military camp as their drum bears the words "Featherston Regional Band Champ") ca 1920s. Photographs of band called "The Commanders" showing members at practice, on social occasions, and performing, ca 1950s. Photograph of drummer Gus Johnson, 5 December 1960. Photographs showing the manufacture of brass band instruments at the factory of Joseph Higham Limited, Manchester, England, 1904. The nine images showing the manufacture of brass instruments and drums at Joseph Higham Limited were probably taken as part of their display at the St Louis Exhibition of 1904 where they won a gold medal. One of the photographs prominantly displays a document authorising the firm an allotment of space at the exhibition. Images in this collection are among those published as illustrations in the Joseph Higham Limited's 1911 catalogue, available at Library reference Eph-B-MUSIC-Hull-Brown.
