Allison, Bertha, 1916-2010, Nurse, Bertha, 1916-2010, Nurse, Frances Rosalind Bertha, 1916-2010

Zoologist with specialist research interest in parasitology. Graduated with a BSc in botany and zoology and and MSc in botany in 1941 from Canterbury University College. Married Russell Morris Allison (1915-1974). Allison was on the staff of the Department of Biology (later Department of Zoology) at Canterbury University College and University of Canterbury, retiring in 1980. Probably the "Bertha Nurse" who was one of the four young women who were the first women to cross the Whitcombe Pass in May 1937. (See photograph in Pascoe Album I, (PA1-o-406, p 42)).

Description: Photographs taken by John Dobree Pascoe and others in the Southern Alps. They include views of mountaineers; views of mountain ranges and valleys; mountain huts and life enjoyed by the mountaineers. One sequence (pages 129-140) show aspects of the search for the body of Edgar Russell who died on Mount Avalanche in 1933. They show the location where he was lost on 30th July 1933, the search party, and the routes they took to search, finally succeeding on 6th August 1933. Pages 99-100, 83-84, and 105-106 show the building and completion of the Athur's Pass Canterbury Mountaineering Club mountain hut; page 87 has an indistinct view of the unveiling of the Arthur Dobson Memorial, on 18th April 1937 (5 km north of Arthur's Pass Village).
