Heslop, William, 1845-1930

Sheepfarmer of Omaranui. Born in 1845 at Blackhill, Northumberland, England. Came to New Zealand with his parents, John Heslop (1812-1894) and Ann née Richardson, in 1856. Te Kooti (under the name of Hiroke) worked for his father draining their Puketapu property and was well-known by the family. Served in the New Zealand Wars in the militia. He married the daughter of Mr. Thomas Waldrom, farmer, of Waipawa. Corresponded with H T Hill from Hastings as 'Veteran' or V W Heslop.
