Tainui (Ship : 1903-1919)

Wooden screw steamer of 128 tons, built in 1903 by J Logan, Auckland, nad owned by the New Zealand Refrigerating Co. Ltd. She was totally destroyed after an explosion in her cargo of benzine, burning the ship, which then drifted ashore. Eight out of nine lives were lost. She was wrecked near Shag Rock, Gore Bay, North Canterbury.
