Steam ship Rimutaka of 8893 tons, was built in 1900 by W Denny & Sons, Dumbarton, Scotland, for the New Zealand Shipping Company. Ran in the passenger and cargo trade between New Zealand and Great Britain, and was sold to shipbreakers in 1931. See Ships with New Zealand Associations (Vol 3, p 39)

Description: Woodridge sailed to New Zealand in Oct 1902 and in his journal describes his voyage on the ss `Papanui' visiting the Spain, Tenerife, the Cape of Good Hope and Tasmania en route, his travels through New Zealand, his departure and voyage back to England on the `Rimutaka' via Cape Horn, Uruguay. He writes of his daily activities, the people he met, the various sights, social life and customs of the places visited and he has included in the volume stamps from the various ports they visited, photographs, pen drawings, dried plants, maps and a huia feather. His itinerary is summarised at the end of the book which also includes a brief address list of persons met and rough abstract of expenses.
