Description: Album containing photographs of the descendants of Stephen and Sarah Lancaster, particularly the Newcombe family, circa 1900 to 1984, collected or taken by the Newcombe family. Photographers are mostly unidentified but include Joseph Zachariah 'Zak' of Wellington (including a series of images of lawn bowls in Karori in 1910). Mostly includes portraits and group portraits of family members including images of weddings, holidays (including Rotorua, Kerikeri, Tauranga, and Australia), picnics, graduations, children playing, sporting activities, soldiers from World War One and World War Two, people posing in gardens and outside houses, and people at unidentified beaches. Many of the portraits are of Gwendoline (Gwen) Newcombe. Also includes historic streetscapes of Karori, early gardens, rural scenes, houses and buildings, including Karori School, and St Mary's Church; and some postcards of the Royal Family including Princess Elizabeth and King Edward VIII (dated 1920). Some photographs have been dated retrospectively by family members, and some are missing. Three items have come loose, including a passport for G G Newcombe, and Mr F Newcombe, valid 1930 to 1935. Title supplied by Library. Some of the photographs have annotations on the back, that are mostly inaccessible currently. The pages were numbered by the creator of the album. Some of the subjects of the photographs are named on this site: Amy Alice Lancaster, was the daughter of Stephen and Sarah Lancaster. She married William Fry Newcombe. Their children were Leo Archibald Newcombe, Gwendoline Newcombe, Raymond Newcombe, Henry Heal Newcombe, William Lancaster Newcombe, and Frank Lawrence Newcombe. Provenance: The donor was the partner of Frank Lawrence Newcombe (died 1998) of Karori, Wellington, who was from the Lancaster and Newcombe families. Processing information: Some of the photographs had become loose so were removed and placed inside an enclosure.
