Note by George Didsbury of the `Southern Cross', `Will Mr Gisborne be good enough to state what is to be done with the proclamation', with note by W Fox to Dr Shortland, `How many copies number struck off?' (24 Jun 1864), followed by Shortland's note asking Disbury for the number to which he replied `None' and lastly the instruction signed by Fox, `Strike of 25 copies & then distribute the type. W Fox'. The upper photograph (PA1-q-633-25-1) shows the official party, including Lord Ranfurly (centre) and Charles Hill-Trevor (right of centre) giving "Three singing "God save the Queen" at the annexation of Aitutaki, 9 October 1900. The lower photograph (PA1-q-633-25-2) shows sailors from HMS Mildura (foreground) and the official party (including Charles Hill-Trevor in the right background), giving "Three cheers for her most gracious majesty" at the annexation of Aitutaki, 9 October 1900. Description: Proclamation for the civil evacuation of New Plymouth during the New Zealand Wars. Dated 27 July 1860, it is signed by Colonel Charles Emilius Gold and bears the Royal Coat of Arms for the United Kingdom. The text of the item reads: "Proclamation. All families numbering five children or upwards drawing rations will hold themselves in readiness to proceed to Port Cooper by the first opportunity. Passages will be provided, and every attention will be paid to their comforts. Lads over 16 may be excepted. (Signed) C E Gold, Colonel Commanding the Forces New Zealand, Friday, 27th July, 1860."
