Sheat, Bill, 1930-2021

Born Pihama, moved with family to Hawera in 1945. Educated New Plymouth Boys' High and Victoria University (BA, LLB). Son of National MP for Patea, William Alfred Sheat, 1899-1982 and Ella Marjery Sheat, 1903-1965, schoolteacher. Married to Genevieve Mary Leicester, 1932-2008, who was the daughter of Justice Wilfrid Leicester.

Awarded OBE CNZM for services to the arts at the Queens Birthday Honours 2011. Member of Drama Panel of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council; and chair of Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School, the Film Commission and Royal Ballet.

Description: 180 photographs in an album taken by unidentified photographers showing people and events related to the Downstage Theatre Society and the Hannah Playhouse building. Most people are named in annotations alongside the photographs. Often events are noted such as “D.T.S. AGM” or “90th Birthday for Constance Kirkcaldie”. Many events appear to be held at the Hannah Playhouse. There are very few dates provided, though most photographs appear to be from the 1990s and 2000s. One black and white photograph shows a poster next to the Downstage Theatre Restaurant in Courtney Place, entitled "Downstage presents Green Julia".
