Description: Comprises recorded lectures, kaupapa gigs, panel discussions, gallery talks and performances to complement the exhibition, which was held between 9 March and 9 June at the National Library Gallery. The exhibition title was 'Kahungunu ka moe... ka puta... Te Hononga Marekura : photographic portraits of Ngati Kahungunu by Samuel Carnell, 1870-1906. See accompanying pamphlet. The original concept for this exhibition was developed by the National Library with Ngati Kahungunu kaumatua, the late Tohara (Charlie) Mohi in 1998. The Carnell Collection of photographs he found comprised 260 photographs of Kahungunu tipuna, of which only 20 were identified. The Kahungunu iwi is based in Hawkes Bay and the Wairarapa. The original exhibition was held at Mihiroa marae in Hastings, then the Hawkes Bay principal researchers of this exhibition were Ngatai Huata and Te Koha Tareha. It looks at the development of Tāranaki Māori communities in Australia, and how connection for the interviewees is fostered though marae, haukainga, tikanga, te teo Māori, and whakapapa. Interviews with Shirley Spooner, Rachel Buchanan, Neville Gilmore, Ihaka Noble, Mitchell Ritai, and Agnes Wharehoka were conducted by Honiana Love. Two interviews were conducted by Honiana Love and Claire Hall; one interview was conducted by Honiana Love and Hokipera Ruakere.
