Canterbury pioneer and iron founder. Arrived in Christchurch in 1850 aboard the 'Sir George Seymour'. He founded a firm, Andersons Ltd, in Cashel Street, Christchurch, in 1851, which started off making ploughs and harrows, and became one of the biggest contractors in New Zealand. Was the second mayor of Christchurch from 1869. Wrote to William Rolleston from Canterbury Foundry, Christchurch in 1883 re fostering local iron manufacturers.
