Description: View of the Hotel Majestic at Paraparaumu Beach, taken between 1923 and 1924 by Robert Percy Moore of Wellington. Part of the hotel is on a knoll on the left, and part at a lower level beside a small stream flowing down on the far left. The building on the knoll is partially visible with verandahs all around, and a car parked beside it. The two-storeyed accomodation wing is on a lower level nearer the beach. Other houses are visible along the top of sand dunes in the middle distance. A man and a woman are standing on the beach on the right. Toetoe and long grasses on the hill to the left of the hotel. This building, with a deep verandah all around, contained the dining room and kitchens, while another building, visible below on the right, contained the accomodation. Hotel built and run by Frank Shirley Spilman. Tennis courts under construction below the hotel on the left. A man, identified as the owner Frank Spilman, is seated on the rail of a small footbridge below the tennis courts. Beach and sea on the right, hills in the background on the left. Taken by Robert Percy Moore. Source of descriptive information - Identification of man seated in the image from a family member.
