Description: Drawn on a base map of Owahanga Station, the annotations depict pā sites, (including terraced pā), middens (deposits of shells or animal bones indicating human settlement) and pits along the Mataikona River. Several comments are written on the map such as the bulldozing of sites, pit size, locality of farm buildings. Drawn by P.J.P. Base map: 'Owahanga Station' (ms map?, 1964). Surveyed by R G Lockie. This map names paddocks, buildings, and describes land use. Gives topographical information. Includes enlargement of the layout of the station's farm buildings such as wool shed, cook house, and shearing quarters. Map consists of two sheets glued together. Note: Owahanga Station is officially in the Tararua District but in the Wellington, not the Manawatu-Wanganui Region. Quantity: 1 map(s). 3 Linear Metres. Slides of the Chatham Islands and Moriori

Description: Some views of the Catham islands dating from 1993. The rest are copies of historical photographs of Moriori dating from ca 1880s to 1930s. These slides were used by Michael King for a lecture on the Chatham Islands. Description: Maori place names and old historical sites of Horowhenua (Vol. 1, images 1-146). Album includes maps, diagrams & sketches, and black & white photographs. Views include Paremata Redoubt, Lake Horowhenua, carved pātaka at Papaitonga Pā. Views of Komokorau, the burial place of Mua-Upoko chiefs including Chief Mahuera Paki Tanguru-o-te-rangi; Lake Wai-tawa and Te Moutere (formerly a fortified island pā). Place names & historic features of Kapiti Island, including relics of whaling days at Wharekohu Bay showing ruins of stone house, stone walls and a stone-embanked stream channel, burial caves, Waiorua Valley showing the approximate site of Te Rauparaha's principal pā, and Motungārara Island where there was a subsidiary pā of Te Rauparaha. Ōtaki, Rangiātea Church (1925); carved whare at Puke-Karaka; Ōtaki Jubilee Pole; and old meeting house Uawhaki at Waikawa. The site of the old Māori flour-mill on the Waitarere Stream at Poroutawhao, which was built in 1853 or 1854 under the direction of a French priest. Several images of performers competing in the haka and poi competitions at Shannon, 2 January 1928. Images of Pākehā pioneers of Horowhenua (Hector McDonald and his wife Agnes (nee Carmont)), and a photograph of Rora Hakaraia, daughter of Mua-Upoko chief Tanguru, and sister of Te Rangihiwinui (also known as Taitoko, and later as Te Keepa or Major Kemp). Includes hand-drawn maps of the Horowhenua region including some which show location of archaeological artifacts found by various Horowhenua residents including J W Proctor, Mr & Mrs C W Dimock of Manakau, and D I and R J Law; drawings of Maori implements and weapons; and black and white photographs, some taken from paintings. First section shows Otukou Pa, near Lake Rotoaira, of the Turamakina hapu of Tuwharetoa iwi; diagrammatical drawings of relics from the various collections; copy of a painting of Te Rangihaeata and photograph of his headstone (gravestone on Paeroa Hill near Poroutawhao, on the Levin-Foxton Highway); notes and images relating to Godfrey Ramsbotham (image 354, p 8), including photographs of 2 paintings by Lindauer, of Ngarere (Maori chieftainess of Maungatautari), and Te Nakau (Maori chief); copy of the first known map of Whanganui, Manawatu rivers etc by James Wyld (1843) showing Maori-made channel for canoes, cut across the Tuwhakatupua loops of the Manawatu River to shorten the journey.
