Description: The "Pipe Bridge" on the Hutt River, photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber, ca 1910. Date from an image dated November 1909 of this bridge under construction in Godber Album (Vol 110, p 52). Original print at Pa1-q-103 (Godber album Vol 110, p 52), along with image of the bridge under construction in November 1909. Inscriptions: Album page - New ferro-concrete bridge over Hutt River for water pipes & traffic. Known as the 'Pipe Bridge' as it carried the water main from the Wainuiomata Reservoir to Wellington, replacing an earlier pipe bridge. Built in 1909, it lasted 45 years before being demolished when the present pioneer prestressed concrete bridge was built dowmstream.
