Description: Fiapapalagi Robertson was born in Samoa and is the eldest daughter in the family. Due to family circumstances she was unable to attend school until she was 12 years of age, being needed to look after the younger children. Describes life growing up in Samoa, size of family plantation and the work done by women. In 1961 Fiapapalagi and her husband to be (a minister in the Assembly of God Church) came to New Zealand and after some time in Wellington, where they were married, settled in Wanganui where she works as a nurse aide in the Jubilee Hospital. Compares housing in New Zealand with that in Samoa. Description: Wooden bowl for kava-drinking ceremonies in either Fiji or Samoa. While the bowl was given to the Library in good faith as the former property of Robert Louis Stevenson during his time in Samoa, photographs (and a drawing by Stevenson's daughter) of Stevenson with a kava bowl he owned show him with a different, 4-legged Samoan-style kava bowl. This bowl is a Fijian-style bowl. He may have owned two kava bowls. Quantity: 1 curio(s). Physical Description: Wooden hand-carved circular bowl on 14 legs, with a twisted wire for hanging attached to a section below the bowl 175 x ca 442 mm.

Description: Poster promoting TEAL flights to Samoa by Solent flying boat shows a foreshortened view, from a high angle, of a carved pole figure. A wagon drawn by a water buffalo passes in front of the pole, and a line of male figures in grass skirts moves in unison beyond. In the background is a group of three circular thatched huts. The TEAL logo appears at lower right. The Solent flying boat service began in 1951, and extended to Samoa in 1952. The poster was probably produced by W Haythorn-Thwaite Advertising Ltd.
