Description: Shows seven scenes. In the first a man and a woman are standing at a tram stop looking angry as a full tram passes them by. In the second a man and a woman are sitting at a coffee shop table talking as other other customers are queuing up for seats. In the third a man is leaving a pub carrying a bag containing full flagons of beer as another man is going into the pub to get his empty flagon filled. In the fourth scene the Seatoun tram's overhead poles have become detached from the power lines. In the fifth scene a woman is walking along carrying several bags of shopping and a loaf of bread under one arm. In the sixth scene a woman is battling the wind as it blows her skirt up at the back while she holds it down at the front with one hand and holds her hat on with the other. Description: Cover for a menu from Orsini's Restaurant shows the name in bright pink cursive script. A border on two sides shows an overall pattern of wine glasses flasks, tables, chairs, cutlery and tableware. The inclusion of wine glasses and bottle on the border suggests a date of around 1961 when liquor laws were relaxed so as to allow alcohol to be served with food. Quantity: 1 folded cover. Description: Photographs of buildings, people, industry, and landscapes taken by Les Cleveland 1960 to 1971 and 1995 to 2009 and printed 1960 to 1972 and 1995 to 2009. All prints have captions which include the title that Cleveland gave the photograph (often including the location it was taken) and the date it was taken and printed. Almost all images are stamped "Les Cleveland Photograph" and some are also stamped with Cleveland's home address. The majority are signed by Cleveland and all are stamped or otherwise identified by Cleveland as being a "Vintage Print". A small number of prints include reference numbers to Cleveland's index cards. Identified people are Mary Cleveland (in nudes taken on Mount Ruapehu, at Ketetahi Springs, and in the Te Naihi Gorge), John Angus "Opo" (at Mussel Point), Pussy Galore and Teddy Bare (in the window of Purple Onion Revue Bar), Prue Evans (in Kaikoura and on a [camping trip?] at Lake Tennyson), Annabel Porter and her child (in Martinborough), Lisa (employee photographed at Just Teasing Hairdressers in Wellington), Barry Hendricksen [also recorded as Barrie Henderickson] of the Helensville Railway Trust, and Cleveland's grandchildren Maxwell and Madeline who are being read to from a storybook. Photographs of unidentified people include a woman in a Queenstown cafe, a group walking by the waka in Pātea, a young child climbing on a carving in Porirua, a family group at Neil's Beach near Haast, a wedding party at St Patrick's Church (Greymouth), a bride at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, a belly dancer in Wellington, and a group around a motorcycle at a Turangi or Tokaanu event celebrating 100 years of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Other photographs include an early settler's grave at a Jackson's Bay cemetery, Rangitikei bush, patterns in mud at the Arawhata River, mudstone formations at Ocean Beach (Jackson's Head), a vineyard in Gibbston Valley, buildings and graffiti in Gore, Dunedin buildings, bar towels drying in Hokitika, a sculpted figure at a market in Santa Fe (Arizona), the Postal Centre at Garston, and views of the Te Naihi Valley including of Mount Tyndar. Photographs of the Wellington Region include buildings (on Riddiford Street, Tonks Avenue, and Lambton Quay), Pidgeon Park, shop front displays (including at Ziggurat on Cuba Street and an antiques store on Jackson Street). sculptures in Hikoikoi Park Petone, and a Nada Bakery van in Johnsonville. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: Prints arrived at Library in no discernible order and were placed in a box labelled "Vintage Prints" by curatorial staff during appraisal. Description: Contains prints of scenes relating to Les Cleveland, his family life and photographic interests, circa 1913 to 1914, 1960s to 2000s. Photographs taken by Les Cleveland. Includes photographs of the Cleveland and Porter families in Martinborough, a portrait of Les Cleveland, and Peter, Donna, Mary, and Edward Cleveland with a dog [husky?]. Unidentified people include a young woman, cafe patrons seated indoors and outdoors at Pātaka Museum and Art Gallery in Porirua, and an unidentified group with a snow plough. A group portrait shows the Coal Miners' Ball Committee, circa 1913 to 1914. Wellington buildings are also photographed, including the Chinese church on Frederick Street, a sign saying "Jesus Loves the All Blacks" outside St John's Church on Willis Street (also contains an accompanying news article), and the ruins of the Miramar Gasworks. Three contact sheet strips show scenes from Mussel Point, West Coast, including children at Carter's settlement (including playing on swings at a playground) and two women working in the Carters' Sawmill Store at Hannah's Clearing in Haast. West Coast images show milled logs, horseback riders, a slip being cleared by a bulldozer, and men from Nolan's Mill drinking and smoking and playing with a dog. Also, six frames show Native American jewellers selling jewellery at the Palace of the Governors, Santa Fe, United States of America. Original enclosures (mainly print wallets) have been retained with prints. The imagelab photo wallet includes a commercial photographer's receipts and notes from Cleveland to the lab technician. Title supplied by Library. Negative of the photograph of the Coal Miners' Ball Committee print is at Alexander Turnbull Library 1/2-012633-F. Arrangement: Prints arrived at the library in a file box in no discernible order. Prints were stored with negatives in photo wallets or kept together by folds of paper or paper clips. Description: Cartoons by Grant Buist who writes Jitterati (a satire on latte sipping cafe values; as well as contemporary political and social developments) for the weekly Wellington City newspaper The Capital Times. Includes several main characters including Jaimee Buchanan (a redhaired librarian), Debbie (a blonde PA) and Tony (a Maori actor). Occasionally the cartoon strip is visited by other Buist cartoon characters including Fitz (a pink psycho-bunny) and Brunswick (a yellow rodent). Part of the NZ Cartoon Archive Grant Buist (born 1973 in Wellington), is a New Zealand cartoonist and animator who produced the cult comic strip Brunswick from 1993 to 2003, and Jitterati from 2001. Jitterati was first published in Wellington's City Voice newspaper, which folded suddenly in 2001. From there, Jitterati was picked up by the Capital Times, until the Capital Times closed down in April 2013, after 540 episodes of the cartoon strip. In June 2013, the Wellington magazine, FishHead began publishing Jitterati comics. Quantity: 491 digital cartoon(s).
