Description: Captain Bligh standing in a small rowboat at the water's edge on the right, with two sailors steadying the boat. He watches as a group of Tahitians lift a young breadfruit tree in a small wooden tub towards the boat, with further saplings lined up to be transferred. A fruiting breadfruit grows on the left among banana palms and other tropical plants. A central figure, a Tahitian chief in a long white robe and draped hat, directs procedings. The rigging of one of Bligh's ships, the Providence or the Assistant, is visible in the right background. The central Tahitian figure appears to be based on Sir Joshua Reynolds' portrait of Omai. Omai died in 1780, well before Bligh's visit to Tahiti for breadfruit transplanting. Description: Colour slide photographs taken by John Reinder Fijn depicting scenes from life in Waipiro Bay, circa 1960s. Images show a man and two boys harvesting potatos in a seaside vegetable garden (also corn plants), a series of images of a girl on a skewbald horse with a huntaway cross sheepdog and further images of the same girl on a bay and a different girl on a grey. Two images, most likley taken in Waipiro Bay, show children swimming in the water and playing in small canoes near the shore (one canoe is named 'Kontiki').
