Description: Dame Vivienne Boyd was born at the old maternity hospital, Knights Road. Outlines family background; mother's scholarship and interest in Astronomy and Latin and Greek languages - mother was a foundation member of Hutt Repertory, reference to Mary Dowse; father owned first petrol pump in Hutt Valley. Discusses difficulty of competing at University with boys who had 5 or 6 years of Chemistry and Physics. Recalls earthquake (1942) during Matriculation examination. Talks about husband, Robert (Bob) who worked for the Railways. Mentions the Brotherhood of Railway men. Gives details of voluntary work: Free Kindergarten Woburn - was on Kindergarten Association Council; Move to Dunedin with husband and involvement with Plunket Committee - reference to letter from Jean King; was National President of Baptist Womens League, and as such was on the Executive of the National Council of Women. Refers to Mavis Tiller and Dame Miriam Dell. Gives details of the setting up of the Board Officers, later Board of Management of National Council Headquarters of which she became president.
