New Zealand baritone and founder of the New Zealand Opera Company in the 1950s. Born in Mosgiel to Thomas George Munro and wife Winifred Virginia. By the 1990s, living in South Australia (information from son Doug, July 1999). Awarded MBE for services to opera in 1960. Senior lecturer and Dean of Music at The Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide (1967-1978). In his portrait Donald Munro is reading a programme for the production of "Porgy and Bess" in 1965. The donor reports that the event was held at the Golden Lotus Restaurant in Brooklyn and was in fact a mini-reunion of members of the New Zealand Opera Company.
