Description: Openings relating to six of the exhibitions (Fabulous and Familiar, Musical Images, Kia Kaha - Forever Strong, Empire and Desire - Gallipoli 1915, Encounter with Eden; New Zealand, 1770-1870, Max Dupain - Sydney Nostalgia ) held in the National Library between 1990 and 1995. Two views of the John Drawbridge mural before it was installed in the National Library building. It is seen in a Government store and still coloured as it was for the international exhibition at Osaka, Japan, 1970. Description: Cameron writes of his family's background, their arrival in New Zealand, but his main aim is to describe his family's participation in World War One and World War Two; he has chapters on the young defenders, covering his call up in 1941 with his friend, Colin Papps, joining the 1st Battalion Canterbury Regiment and then going to Trentham army school. Cameron then looks back at Gallipoli, telling to story of his father, Alfred Edward Cameron. He next records his brother's experiences as a signalman, Ronald Edward George Cameron, and as a prisoner of war following the battle at Ruweisat Ridge; he writes of the liberation of northern Italy, the ending of World War Two, the occupation of Japan, and ends with general reflections on the family's history. Description: Album of views in Egypt and Gallipoli during World War I, compiled by Alfred Edward Cameron (1894-1967, and negative showing Vauxhall car, ca 1940s.) Cameron sailed from New Zealand to Egypt with the Main Body of the NZEF in Oct 1914 and served as a trumpeter with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles.
