Description: Comprises eight letters written by Lorna Carter on the `Atlantis' from England to New Zealand in 1951 to her family in Oban, Scotland. She describes her experiences, other passengers, activities on board the ship and being on tours at the various ports they visited. The sequence ends in Wellington where she obtained work in the Public Service. The ship sailed past the Spanish coast, through the Suez Canal, the Indian Ocean to Western Australia, and Wellington. One letter includes a song composed for the end of the voyage by two women to the tune of `Thanks for the memory'. Source of title - Supplied Lorna Carter (later Ross) emigrated to New Zealand in 1951 but returned to Scotland in 1954.
