Description: Medal obverse shows a beach scene with men hauling a lifeboat ashore, with the wrecked ship offshore to the right. Other boats are passing in the distance, and above there is an anchor and scroll with the words "Hope to the last". Reverse shows the inscription to George Edmonds, an oak and laurel wreath, and light shining from an eye in the sky (probably divine providence). Quantity: 1 curio(s). Description: Medal obverse shows a profile portrait head of Queen Victoria facing left, by Benjamin Wyon. The reverse shows a scene of shipwreck survivors attracting the attention of a lifeboat. This medal was awarded to George Edmonds for his part in saving life from the wreck of the "Admella" (wrecked on a voyage from Adelaide to Melbourne off Cape Northumberland, 6 August 1859). Inscription on leather case spells the recipient's name as "Edmunds". Other Titles - George Edmonds. Admella Quantity: 1 curio(s). Description: An imaginative scene by the artist of William James Hardham rescuing a fellow soldier under heavy fire, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. The rescued soldier is climbing onto Hardham's horse while Hardham tries to control it as it rears up in fright; there is another horse lying dead on the ground, and explosions going off around them Other Titles - South Africa Hardham was the only New Zealander to win the V.C. during the Boer War. He was later promoted to Lieutenant and served with the 9th Contingent. He would go on to serve as a Captain with the Wellington Mounted Rifles, New Zealand Expeditionary Force during World War I.
