Description: Rose speaks of her isolated rural upbringing near the small community of Glenorchy at the head of Lake Wakatipu. She has spent her whole life in this area and still lives in the family home that her parents moved to when she was about 10 years old. her working life has focused on farming. Unpaid jobs involved mainly rabbiting, milking and feeding the stock. She recalls the history of tourism, mining and timber milling in the Glenorchy area. Speaks of farming today and of raising 140 sheep and 20 cattle not to mention her main friends - 20 cats. Single handedly she keeps the family property running and thrives on life, simply living off the land, with a grand respect for nature. Description: From Con Leary we hear of the hazards and dangers for the rabbiter, especially the ones that do a lot of patroling on horse-back, in areas of rivers and swift mountain streams. Explains how one generally has one's gun, poison gasses and traps on the saddle, so the horse only needs to put a foot wrong and over one goes, landing upside down in a wash-out, getting a foot caught, poison gas escaping, horse thrashing - it can be a very nasty situation.
