Description: 'On Tour' Whitcombe and Tombs travel diary of Englishwoman Doris Booth detailing her travel experiences in New Zealand between 1965 to 1966 sight seeing and visiting friends. Detailed entries describe the weather, social activities, her observations, and people and places visited. In the illustrated introduction to the travel diary Booth has ticked off on the pictures which places she has visited. On the map of New Zealand in the diary she has sketched in ink the route around the country she has taken. The diary also recounts her flight to New Zealand on BOAC in 1965, and her ship voyage back to England aboard the R.M.S. Durango in 1966. She describes an incident when a member of the crew was shot shortly after departing for England, requiring the ship to return to Wellington so police could investigate. The diary describes becoming ship board friends with Sir Walter Nash and his sister Emily Nash who were also passengers aboard this vessel. The endpages to the diary records names and addresses, the dates and correspondents of letters written by Booth, and a listing of photographs taken using Kodapak film. No photographs came with this diary. People named are Mr Hilder,Director of Armstrong and Spring Hall & Mrs Hilder; Janice Crowe of Wellington; Doris and "Punch" of Dunedin, John and Pat Satterthwaite, Jean and Ian Gilmour.
