Description: Interview with Jack Mulheron born 1924 in Te Awamutu. Son of Patrick James and Anne Sarah Mulheron who immigrated to New Zealand from London, England after the Great War. Mentions his parents settling in Karori, Wellington and his strict Catholic schooling and scholarship at Saint Patrick's College. Talks about his Irish heritage and Catholicism in detail and his personal annexation from the church. Describes his first trip away from home on a cycling trip on the Gentle Annie Road between Taihape and Napier. Discusses playing hockey and going on to be a representative in the New Zealand Hockey Team. Talks about his marriage to Sonia in a Registry Office in Sydney and the controversy this caused. Recalls various jobs including the Merchant Navy and becoming involved in the 1951 Waterside dispute. Talks about the fear of communism in New Zealand, the influence of McCarthy, and how unionists were ostracised following the 1951 Strike. Describes his career change in becoming a teacher. Discusses his beliefs that children should be taught to ask questions and demand answers. Mentions his first school, Karori West and his views on the "values" that were being taught at this time. Description: Russian protest poster accusing the Catholic Church and its wealthy religious leaders of opposing the Soviet Union. It shows a caricature of Pope Pius XI standing on sentry duty beside a huge safe in which are housed the "shares of war factories" (labelled in Russian). Blood seeps from under the safe door. The Pope's rifle, shows a "bayonet" in the shape of a crucifix. A typescript English translation of the Russian text is affixed below the image and beside the label on the safe. Along the top edge is a handwritten English translation of the title text: "Pope on guard" A translation of the text below the image is given, as follows: "Churchmen of all shades show themselves as inspirers and organisers of furious badgering against the Soviet Union. The Catholic Church including many of its wealthy members, are shareholders of large undertakings of war industries. Description: Minutes for Wellington meetings, also Hawke's Bay meetings, membership papers, marriages, births and burials registers, visitors book, correspondence, newsletters, files on buildings, and various other subjects, including history files Also papers relating to George Fox House, 8 Moncrieff Street, Wellington. Source of title - Supplied title Arrangement: Arranged into series following those set up by the Monthly Meeting. From 1840 Wellington Quakers had held their meetings in private houses, but in 1901 it was decided to set up a more formal structure, with meetings in a public hall and in 1902 a formal Wellington Monthly Meeting was established. In 1903 the Continental Committee of the London Yearly Meeting, which had looked after New Zealand affairs, gave place to the Australasian Committee and regional organization was consolidated into the Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Taranaki Six Month Meeting. In 1912 Wellington and Hawke's Bay formed a separate Monthly Meeting. In 1966 Hawke's Bay was transferred to the Manawatu Monthly Meeting.
