Tilsley, Louise, 1898-1983

Bookplate artist. Studied at Elam School of Art form 1916. Secretary at Elam for many years under both Walter Payton and A J C Fisher. Known for her skill at lettering. Projects included books of remembrance, Auckland War Memorial Museum. Woodcut and linocut bookplates from the 1930s. member of the Rutland Group. Close friend of Hilda Wiseman. Later diversified into screen printing. Joined Wellington and Auckland Ex Libris Societies ca 1936. (See Ian Thwaites' bookplate article in Auckland Waikato historical journal, September 1998).
