Description: Albums of black and white and colour photographic proof sheets taken by unidentified photographer(s) for the Electricity Department and its successors, the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Corporation, between 1968 and 1989. Images include power station interiors and exteriors, dams, spillways, intakes, canals, transmission towers, cooling towers, offices, information centres, technical training school attendees and training activities, equipment, signs, displays, electrical substations, control rooms with computer equipment, construction of power stations and dams, scenic and aerial views of dams, storage lakes, power stations and surrounding areas, views of the towns and villages serving construction projects and power stations, openings of dams and power stations, anniversary celebrations for power stations, informal pictures and formal portraits of some staff members, and New Zealand scenery (mostly from areas near power stations, dams and substations). The proof sheets are in individual plastic pockets in ringbinders, and each sheet is backed with a description sheet that provides a number, the subject or location of the photographs, and the date the photographs were taken, generally expressed as a month and a year. Some of the sheets also have a descriptive name and date written on the back, and some names and dates have been mistranscribed onto the description sheet. The number range for the black and white proof sheets begins at 330 and ends at 916, with numbers 402-583 missing. The number range for the coloured proof sheets begins at 1 and ends at 1244; numbers 890-899 and 1233-1242 are missing (or sheets have been misnumbered). Some pockets do not contain proof sheets and are usually but not always annotated "Not used". Many of the individual images within the sheets have numbers written on them and some have been marked up to show how the images should be cropped, presumably for printing or publication. Some are annotated with notes about where the negatives are; in particular many images of the construction of New Plymouth Power Station are annotated "Negatives with CE" and various dates in the late 1990s. Arrangement: By type of photographic process (black and white, and colour) and within each sequence largely chronological, although there are some overlaps between years. Quantity: 36 album(s).
