Christian World Service

The Christian World Service is the development, justice and aid agency of the New Zealand churches. Until its closure in 2005 it came under the oversight of the Conference of Churches in Aotearoa New Zealand (CCANZ). From 1945-1967 the Christian World Service was known as the Inter-Church Aid Department of the National Council of Churches. Types of activities the Christian World Service has been involved in is the organisation of foreign relief and aid to underdeveloped and/or countries involved in political conflict; the formation of justice programmes to empower the disenfranchised; fundraising through Christmas appeals and the fostering of closer relationships with other religious organisations in the larger ecumenical family
