Description: Comprises a typewritten eulogy for Norman Leslie Shelton, written by Stanley Laurenson in September 1983. The eulogy, which contains biographical information spanning Shelton's life, focusing in particular on his political career, was written three years after his passing in July 1980. The typescript has been housed in a manila folder labelled "NORMAN" and includes, interleaved within the eulogy, a photocopied image of Shelton taken from a newspaper article about his role as acting Prime Minister. The title page includes a quote from 'The Arrow and the Song' by H W Longfellow. Biography/history note source: MS-Papers-12763. Title trasncribed from item. Collection of material relating to Norman Leslie Shelton can be found at Library reference MS-Group-00261. Norman Shelton CBE (1905-1980) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party and served in Norfolk Island, Egypt and Italy between 1943 and 1946 during World War Two. He was elected as National MP for Rangitikei 1954-1972, and held various ministerial portfolios between 1960 and 1972. Stanley G Laurenson met Norman Shelton in 1926 at the Feilding branch of Hodder and Tolley Ltd where both men worked. They remained lifelong friends. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
