Description: Jack Lovelock on board ship in Auckland during his 1936 visit to New Zealand as a guest of the Government. Photograph taken by Arthur Walter Powell circa 29 October. Other - Published in the New Zealand Free Lance, 4 November 1936 Other - Caption in New Zealand Free Lance reads: "J E Locklock [sic], winner of the 1500 meters at the Olympic Games in the world record time of 3mins, 47 4-5 secs., photographed on board the Mariposa when he arrived in Auckland in Auckland last week for a short visit to New Zealand as a guest of the Government." Other - Judging by a comparison of the notes on the back of the print, and the caption in the Free Lance, there appears to be some confusion as to which ship this photograph was taken on Inscriptions: Verso - Lovelock on the deck of the Monterey.
