Description: Comprises logs kept by Fenwick: `Duke of Wellington', 27 Jul-28 Sep 1869, on a voyage from Portsmouth to Plymouth; on the `Bristol' 29 Sep 1869-10 Jan 1870 from Plymouth to Barbados, Bermuda and Trinidad; and on the `Clio', 22 Mar-30 Nov 1870, from England which included Madeira, St Vincent to Simon's Bay, to Wellington and Sydney. The `Clio' arrived in Wellington 27 Aug and left 3 Sep. The Duke of Edinburgh was visiting Wellington on the `Galatea' which was in harbour the same time as the `Clio'. Description: Album of views compiled by Alexander Fisher, MD RN, during his service as a surgeon aboard HMS Endymion. The album comprises: Photographs collected during the cruise of the Flying Squadron, under the command of Rear Admiral G T Phipps Hornby, during 1869-1870, which carried HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. Included are views of Plymouth, Portsea, Madeira, Brazil (Bahia and Rio de Janiero), South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Japan, British Columbia, Hawaii and Chile. Photographs collected during a cruise in the Mediterranean during the 1870s, including views of Malta, Syria, Jerusalem, Venice, Egypt (Alexandria, Cairo, Pyramids, the Sphinx), Gibraltar and Seville Photographers represented include William Thomas Locke Travers (1819-1903), James Bragge (1833?-1908), Felice A Beato (1825-1908?). Prince Alfred Ernest Albert, Duke of Edinburgh (1844-1900), was captain of HMS Galatea and commander of the Flying Squadron, which visited New Zealand in 1869 and 1870.
