Hymns in Maori composed by William Colenso

Description: Twenty-five experimental hymns 'which I had composed at different periods during my lonely wanderings' were printed by Colenso in 1847 as the first products of his printing press at Ahuriri. These were numbered 100 to 126 and are taken from this MS. Each hymn, some of them unfinished, is prefaced by a scriptural quotation and the date and place of composition of most hymns is noted. The MS is a legible fair copy used by Colenso's Maori compositor Samuel. For further information see Early Maori Imprints and Williams 161.
