Karetu speaks about various cases such as the Frisian language in the Netherlands, and the Sami language in Norway and Finland. He talks about financial assistance from various governments, but speculates about the reasons why Māori people choose not to speak te reo Māori. He also speaks about language planning for the revival of te reo Māori, and the importance of increasing the status or mana of te reo Māori.
