Description: Comprises five interviews with members of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Aotearoa Section who talk about when they joined the organisation, reasons for joining and their level of involvement within it. Marie Blaschke, Eve Holland, and Dawn Forbes were interviewed by Céline Kearney; Katherine (Kath) Knight was interviewed by Megan Hutching; and Barbara Woods was interviewed by Sarah Dalton. Interviewees comment on their involvement in other social and peace issues such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), the Peace Foundation, and Greenpeace. Some mention their Quakerism, pacifism, or Christian Pacifism as a reason for joining the WILPF. They recall meetings were often held in the Quaker Hall. The international nature of WILPF also appealed. The interviewees talk about some of the WILPF activities such as letter writing, signing petitions, attending protest demonstrations and marches. They recall contact with overseas branches and attending international conferences. Members mentioned include: Meg Blamires, Marjorie Evans, Pat Hughson, Mollie Leatham, Joan Macdonald, Phyl Short, Jean Smith, Rae Wynn. Title supplied by Library. The League was founded at The Hague in 1915, with the New Zealand section being formed in 1916/1917. The League aims to bring together women to abolish the political, social, economic and psychological causes of war and to work for a constructive peace. Description: Arrangement of text with central panel showing two scenes: at left the guards sleeping at the U S missile depot; and at right, some sheep asking Mr Thompson about Tangimoana. He replies that it is an installation for rersearch and rescue operations to help and protect New Zealanders. The text below suggests that Tangimoana is part of a US world-wide electronic spying system called Bullseye, and is probably a foreign base. This is likely to make New Zealand a nuclear target.
