Till, Maurice, 1926-2011

New Zealand pianist and internationally-acclaimed accompanist. Born in Christchurch in 1926 and attended Shirley Primary and Intermediate Schools, then St. Andrews College (1940-1944). Studied at Canterbury University College, completing an M.A. with Honours in Mathematics and a Diploma in Music. Spent lengthy periods on the staff of both Otago (1949-1953; 1971-1981) and Canterbury (1958-1971; 1981-1991) Universities. He was awarded the MBE (1971) and the CNZM (1991). Married Leila Meldrum in 1951, and they have two children, Janet (b. 1952) and Richard (b. 1959).
