Te Mutumutu, -1903, Turoa, Pehi, -1903

Te Ati Haunui-a-Paparangi leader. Known in his youth as Te Mutumutu. Son of Te Peehi Pakoro Turoa, grandson of Te Peehi Turoa (d 1845). Was baptised by a Roman Catholic Missionary and took the name of Topia (Tobias). Held the rank of major in the Colonial forces 1861 and correspondent to Donald McLean. He captained the canoe "Werawera" on a journey made by James Coutts Crawford, Samuel Deighton, Dr Tuke of Wanganui and Mr Jowett, on the Wanganui River in 1861. Of Upper Wanganui, received a pardon in the peace proclamation in 1865.
