Description: Sketch shows a view of a curve in the river with two canoes, one near to the viewer with five occupants, and one further away. Behind the further canoe, reflected in the water, are four structures of vertical wooden poles (possibly a hakari / food storage tower). These are either on the far bank or standing in the water close to the bank. There are hills in the distance, and vegetation in the left foreground and right background. Description: Shows wooden church with the narthex porch and side aisles as lean-tos to the main central aisle, which has clerestory windows grouped in threes along the sides. The "west" window above the narthex, is a triple arch. There are crosses on the main roof at both ends of the ridgepole. There is a wooden fence in front of the church and a woman with a dog stands outside. A man and child pass by in the foreground. To the left of the church is an area of cleared land with felled trees, and to the right and left are buildings. The largest one at the right could be a meeting room or schoolroom. The church does not resemble exactly, any seen in file photographs of Takaka, Motueka, Hastings, Havelock North, Palmerston North or Wanganui.
