McGregor Wright Gallery

A fine art dealers, picture framers, carvers, and gilders business, based in Wellington. Established in Dunedin in March 1879, by McGregor Bonar Wright (1861-1939), who later ran the business with his brother George B (Bonar) Wright. The Dunedin business closed in 1902. They opened a branch in Wellington at 129 Lambton Quay in March 1888, shifting to premises at 182 Lambton Quay by 1913, and at a later dates (circa 1930s) to 115 Lambton Quay and Waring Taylor Street.

For a time period there was a branch in Auckland.

Although McGregor Wright sold out of the business in 1906, it continued to be known as McGregor Wright Gallery. It was bought in 1906 for the great uncle of Nancye Cooksley (nee Osborne), whose father bought the business in 1932. Her brother Alan Osborne ran it with her husband Gordon Cooksley, until Gordon took it over. Gordon and Nancye ran the business at its Wellington premises (closed circa 2001) and at premises in Raumati until 2013 when the business closed.

Held Centenary Exhibition at Turnbull House in 1979.
