J Joseph & Company

Wellington business importing goods from England for supply to the retail trade. Established by Jacob Joseph. His brother-in-law Joseph Edward Nathan (1835-1912) was made a partner of the firm on 1 Jan 1861. The partnership dissolved on 26 June 1873. After Jacob Joseph retired that year Nathan purchased the assets of the business and set up Joseph Nathan and Company.

Description: Photographic prints mounted to form a panoramic view of Thorndon as seen from the end of a wharf. The original photographs were taken in 1866 by William Henry Whitmore Davis. The creator of the copy prints and assemblage is unknown, compiled circa 1920s.
