Anglican minister and artist. Born 7 May 1843, Kilcooley, Co Tipperary, Ireland, the second son of Rev Edward Walsh, rector, Kilcooley. He spent time in France with his family in the early 1860s. Arrived New Zealand aboard Mary Shepherd, 1866, to Bay of Islands Special Settlement, with ca 40 others, mostly Irish and eight being sons of Irish clergy. Farmed at Whangae in Northland with William Willis. Trained as a minister at St John's, Auckland, 1872-1874. His first appointment was as a lay reader in 1874 to Waitara, Taranaki, where he worked for 7 years. He was consecrated as a priest in 1876. He visited Norfolk Island in 1880 for the consecration of a memorial chapel (Illustrated London news, 12 March 1881). Later worked at Coromandel (1882-1883), at Waimate North in 1884. and at St Mary's Parnell, Auckland, where he became a canon in 1898. Attended Archbishop Govett's jubilee at St Mary's Church, New Plymouth 1898. Archdeacon at Waimate 1900. In 1909 he retired to Cambridge. Died 22 Aug 1914 at Remuera, Auckland.
