Description: Handbill for a theatrical performance which featured "The school for scandal" followed by a "favourite comic song, by Mr Robertson", and then the final performance for the season, of a "grand Pantomimic Ballet-d'Action" - "The death of Captain Cook", directed by Mr Bonville with scenery painted by Mr Stanton; music composed by Gretry. The synopsis of Parts 1, 2 and 3 are given, part 3 being Cook's funeral. Captain Cook was to be played by Mr Paulet and other actors were Mr Pero, Mr W Taylor, Mr King, Mr and Mrs Bonville, Mr Holland and Mr James. The action of "The death of Captain Cook" included: Modes and manners of the Islanders making love, Emai's choice, a view of the altar, procession and marriage ceremony, dance of the natives, a war glee; reception of Cook by the islanders and their King, dance of natives, manner of going to war, and grand battle; and later a re-enactment of the procession and funeral rites. The same cast members took part in "School for scandal', with the addition of Mr Sidney, Mr & Mrs O'Brien, Mr Peters, Mr Earl, Mr Spencer, Mrs Paulet and Mrs King. Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s).
